Today, we celebrate our sweetest cat, Hunny Bunny. One of our first rescues, Hunny Bunny came to June’s back in 2013, our first year of operation. The shelter said she was very shy and thought she was about 11 years old. Imagine our surprise when we took her to the vet and found she was really only three! The shelter was right about her being shy, though.
As a cat lover, you know how “thrilled” cats are about new environments (not!), and with senior cats, big transitions are especially “delightful.” This is where Hunny Bunny showcases her superpower: the official welcoming committee. She absolutely loved to welcome new cats to June’s. She had a way of breaking through newcomers’ stress and fear with a special love that only Hunny Bunny can embody. She soothes them, and they settle into their new lives more easily because of her.
It quickly became clear that, despite her young age, Hunny Bunny had a big mission in life. She was meant to spend her days comforting senior cats at June’s. Her superpower helped countless cats transition into their new lives. Hunny Bunny lived to be 14, and helped countless cats at Hannah’s House feel more comfortable in their new home. Her sweet spirit is remembered with each new cat that comes to June’s.
Hunny Bunny may no longer greet each newcomer at Hannah’s House, but her legacy lives on in every frightened senior cat who walks through our doors.
She showed us that rescue isn’t just about food and medicine — it’s about comfort. It’s about reassurance. It’s about one gentle soul helping another feel safe again.
