We wanted to update you on Lance, the gentle, loving black cat with a severe eye infection who started out in our Help Meowt program. As his condition worsened, we reassessed the situation and brought him into our care. With consistent treatment, Lance has been healing, pain-free, and loving life with his Furever Foster, Robert.
But on a recent visit to deliver supplies to Lance and Robert, we noticed Lance’s eye looked a little different. Knowing how quickly the situation can change, we took Lance to the vet to get it checked out. After examining Lance’s eye, the vets are afraid it might be a tumor, so they want to do surgery to remove his eye for a biopsy.
While this isn’t the outcome we wanted for sweet Lance, we are hopeful for him. He’s used to vision from his remaining eye, and has a home where he’s happy and loved.
It’s moments like this that remind us why we do this work. But Lance’s story also underscores something important: caring for senior cats is rarely simple, and it is almost never inexpensive. In Lance’s case, his eye removal surgery is estimated to cost $1,500, and his ongoing care will continue.
We never want cost to determine whether a senior cat receives the care they deserve. When a neglected senior cat arrives in distress, we say yes—and we trust that our community will stand with us.
If Lance’s story touches your heart, please consider making a gift to help cover his medical care. Every donation — no matter the size — helps ensure that cats like Lance can breathe easier, feel safe again, and spend their golden years surrounded by love.
Thank you for being part of this work. Because of you, Lance has been given a chance at comfort and love in his golden years. And that means everything.
