Hope, an 11-year-old, petite black cat, is definitely a people cat, despite her rough start. When she was 9 months old—just a kitten herself—she and her kitten were abandoned outside a vet clinic in the middle of the night. A rescue group came in and took her kitten, but not Hope, and soon a vet tech noticed that Hope was limping.

Upon examination, the vet discovered that Hope’s leg was broken. This was bad news for two reasons: first, cats with health issues are less likely to get adopted, so they languish in shelters. Rescues just didn’t want to take a black cat with a broken leg. Second, a broken leg at such a young age can impair growth, and the vet was worried that the leg wouldn’t grow with her.

Once we heard about this sweet black cat with a sunny disposition nursing a broken leg, we knew she would be a perfect fit for June’s.

Here, Hope has found a home where her personality shines. Super friendly and outgoing, she’s part of the June’s Welcoming Committee, greeting guests and volunteers who come by. She loves lots of attention and pets, and despite severe arthritis, can be spotted playing with other cats.

At 11, Hope does have a few health problems. While her broken leg healed, she was left with severe arthritis, and she gets a regular shot to help her with the pain. She also has severe stomatitis, a painful condition of the mouth and gums caused by an immune response to dental plaque. But at June’s, she gets the care and love she needs so she can continue to brighten everyone’s day.
