When we got the call to rescue Soka, a 19 year-old black cat, she had been staying at Judy’s home for a month. Judy’s granddaughter had found her in a nearby neighborhood, assumed she was a stray, and brought her home to her grandmother.
They realized they couldn’t keep her and called us since they knew we have a soft spot for senior cats. One of our first steps when we accept a stray is to find out if the cat is microchipped and try to locate original owners, so we were hoping for a heartwarming reunion happy ending for this sweet cat.
We were thrilled when we learned Soka was chipped and learned her owners lived close to where she had been found. We thought she must have gotten outside and lost when Judy’s granddaughter found her and brought her home. Unfortunately, when we contacted the owners, they had no interest in reclaiming her. So much for the heartwarming reunion!
But Soka’s story does have a happy ending after all! A family whose longtime foster kitty they had with us, crossed the rainbow bridge, they decided their home was too quiet not to have a foster kitty and approached JSCR about being a Furever Foster again. They came to Hannah’s House, met all the cats and fell in love with Soka’s affectionate personality instantly.
Soka made herself at home immediately after arriving at her new foster home and dug right into the box of toys. She seems to really like catnip and she likes to put her forehead against Megan’s (her foster mom).
June’s Senior Cat Rescue is able to provide care and comfort for senior cats thanks to the generous donations of many supporters. Your gift, in any amount, makes a difference in the lives of cats like Soka.
