Prancer: The Little Cat Who Just Needed a Chance

When Prancer arrived at the shelter in Roswell, New Mexico, he was just a kitten hoping someone would choose him. Day after day, potential adopters passed by, and month after month, Prancer waited. By the time we visited the shelter, he was the only cat still
left in the whole shelter!

We couldn’t understand why no one had taken him home. So we did.

After Prancer joined June’s, we discovered he was living with a seizure disorder. While his condition can sometimes be frightening for both him and the people who care for him, Prancer has never let it dampen his sweet spirit.

Now 3 years old, Prancer is a gentle boy who takes a little time to warm up to new people. He may be shy at first, but a few gentle pets are usually all it takes to get his
purr motor running. Once he feels safe, his affectionate nature shines through.

Prancer especially loves the company of other cats and spends much of his time playing with his feline friends in foster care. And if there’s one thing Prancer loves even
more than playtime, it’s mealtime. Wet food is his absolute favorite, and he’s always convinced there’s room for seconds—or even thirds! His tiny, sweet meow often lets everyone know exactly when dinner should be served.

But recently we learned that our sweet Prancer has developed Feline Infectious Peritonitis, a rare disease that until recently was almost always fatal in cats. Fortunately, a new treatment has emerged that makes Prancer’s prognosis much better. While the intensive treatment takes about 3 months, Prancer is in good hands with our vet and we are hopeful that Prancer will be back to asking for thirds soon.

Though life hasn’t always been easy for Prancer, he’s found safety, friendship, and love. With continued care and support, he can keep enjoying the simple things that make him happiest: good food, good friends, and plenty of gentle affection.
