A few months ago, we shared Soka, a 19-year-old abandoned cat’s happy ending with you. We’re suckers for a good happily ever after, so we didn’t want to miss a chance to share her “ever after” with you.
Meg and Jason, former fosters who instantly fell in love with Soka’s affectionate personality, told us she made herself at home immediately with them. “Soka very much has us trained,” says Meg. “A certain meow means ‘I want fresh wet food’ (and she’ll let us know if she thinks her food is too old). We bring it to her any time she likes.”

Another meow tells Meg and Jason that Soka wants them to play with her favorite toys with her, and they gently play with her for about 5 minutes a few times a day. She especially loves to play with her fishy on a string and catnip sock—and this 19-year-old girl still has a great pounce! “We didn’t think she’d be playful at 19,” Meg says, “but it was a pleasant surprise.”
Soka likes to cuddle with Meg on the couch and watch movies, and she loves to sleep with at least one paw on Megan at all times. One of her favorite spots is on the tile hearth of the fireplace, where she can spy on the birds outside.
Soka has even taken on a new role: grandma! She has four new roommate cats, including a kitten that absolutely adores her (and really, who wouldn’t? ), and she is teaching her new little grandcat how to cat. Soka is truly a gem!

She’s very sweet and seems to still be enjoying life. Megan says, “We’re so glad that we can give her love and whatever she needs to live out her life in comfort. She deserves nothing less, and we love her very much.”
Your support of June’s Senior Cat Rescue is what lets us help cats like Soka. However, we can’t do the important work we do with senior cats without the help of our generous donors. Running a rescue with 50+ cats requires love and care, but it also requires lots of food, litter, and veterinary care. That’s where you come in. Your gift, in any amount, helps keep us running so we can continue to care for our senior cats, who need food, vet care, and people dedicated to their well-being.
